Pressure gauge practical

5-Point Pressure Gauge Calibration: Practical 0–25–50–75–100% Check

Run a practical five-point pressure-gauge check at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of span while preserving the original As-Found readings.

The five points

AccessRA uses five working points across the gauge span: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. For a 0–1000 psi gauge, that is 0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 psi.

For another range, calculate the points from that span rather than copying the training pressures.

Treat the DWT as a pressure balance, not as a pump. The spindle moves oil; the loaded floating piston establishes the reference.

Try it: complete the upscale run

Apply each reference point in order, allow the bench and pointer to stabilise, then read and record the gauge. Do not adjust during the As-Found sequence.

Calculate the error

Error = indication − reference. To express it against span: %FS error = error ÷ full-scale span × 100.

Compare the result with the tolerance specified for that gauge/job. The 0–1000 psi Class 1.0 AccessRA training case uses ±10 psi.

Do not stop at the upscale run

A complete calibration job may require a controlled 100→75→50→25→0% downscale run, diagnosis, correction only when justified, and a fresh full As-Left verification. Preserve the original As-Found data.

Technical basis, limitations & references

Applicability

Mechanical Bourdon-tube pressure gauges within the pressure-gauge training arrangements currently validated in AccessRA. Examples use the 0–1000 psi, Class 1.0 training gauge unless the article states otherwise.

Limitations

Use the error pattern as a diagnostic clue, not as a universal manufacturer adjustment instruction. Movement geometry and adjustment provisions vary. Applicable OEM, site and calibration procedures take precedence.

Safety boundary

Use pressure-rated reference equipment, fittings and test media. Do not exceed equipment ratings, and fully depressurise before breaking a pressure connection.

Validation basis

Simulation-backed. Uses the existing AccessRA pressure-gauge training model and focused article demonstration. The micro-demo reuses the same gauge rendering and fault-pattern logic used by the AccessRA Gauge Test Lab; it is illustrative training, not a substitute for an OEM-specific repair instruction.
