Control Valve Signal / Travel Check

Convert a standard command signal to expected valve travel and compare measured position without confusing signal direction with the valve's fail-safe position.

Position check

Assumes a linear signal-to-travel configuration.

mA
%
±% travel

Loop and positioner checks

Keep the action definition unambiguous.

Specify what increasing signal physically does to valve travel. Do not infer fail-open or fail-closed behavior from the signal direction.

Calculation basis

Signal % = (mA − 4) / 16 × 100
or (psi − 3) / 12 × 100

Increasing signal opens: Travel % = Signal %
Increasing signal closes: Travel % = 100 − Signal %

This is a signal/travel verification tool, not a valve sizing or fail-action calculator. It assumes linear command-to-travel mapping and excludes split range, custom characterization, mechanical stops, positioner calibration strategy and inherent/effective valve flow characteristic.
