Vertical Gauge Tank Volume / Rate
Convert a measured sight-glass level change in a vertical cylindrical tank into liquid volume and an equivalent daily rate.
Well-test use
Gauge a measured liquid interval.
Gauge and surge tanks are used during well testing to measure or temporarily store separated liquids. This tool converts a level movement into an uncorrected geometric volume and rate.
Calculation basis
ΔV = Area × |L₂ − L₁|
Daily rate = ΔV × 86,400 / elapsed seconds
Geometry: vertical right circular cylinder with constant internal diameter over the measured level interval.
Rate basis: the calculated rate is the net tank inventory-change rate. It represents incoming test-liquid rate only when simultaneous discharge/transfer is stopped or separately accounted for.
This does not replace a certified tank strapping/calibration table. Cone bottoms, dished heads, divided-compartment geometry, internal displacement, thermal expansion, shrinkage, meter factor and pressure/temperature corrections are not included. Use the applicable certified tank/compartment table where custody, allocation or approved reporting procedures require it.
